Match-3 Puzzle review

Candy Sweet Legend - Match 3

Candy Sweet Legend spends more effort than most on its board shapes and setting — a tea-shop counter frames the action, and boards are cut into hearts, arches and other outlines instead of a flat grid — though the obstacle-heavy design pushes the entry difficulty a notch above the rest of this group.

How the board actually works

Boards are cut into shapes rather than filling a rectangle — a heart outline in one of our sessions, with a pair of sealed jam jars sitting in the centre that need matches made directly next to them to crack open. Butterflies and hearts fill most of the grid, and the shop counter with its tea set stays visible behind the board the whole time, which is a nice bit of framing even if it does not change how you play.

A running score counter sits above the board — 50 of a 120 target in one session we tracked — and it climbs from ordinary matches as well as from cracking a jar, so the two goals reinforce each other rather than competing for the same limited moves.

Progress and unlocks

The level path is presented as a small town map with the tea shop as a recurring backdrop between stages, and clearing levels slowly reveals more of it. There is no separate meta-currency to manage on top of that — progress is just level completion, shown as a simple counter climbing toward a round target.

The shop itself does not change based on how well a level went — there is no star rating pushing you to replay a stage for a better result — which makes this a more relaxed pick for anyone who dislikes replaying levels purely to chase a higher score.

Accessibility notes

Piece shapes are distinct enough to tell apart without relying on colour alone, which helps on the busier heart-shaped boards where pieces cluster tightly near the obstacle jars. Text throughout the interface is a reasonable size by default, with no way to enlarge it further in settings.

Small annoyances

The jam-jar obstacles need matches made in an exact adjacent spot to crack, and on a contoured board that is not always obvious at a glance — we lost a handful of moves in testing simply misjudging which pieces counted as "next to" a jar.

Who might want to skip this one

Players who want the simplest possible version of match-3 — a flat grid, one clear goal, minimal obstacles — will likely find this the fussiest option in our group. It rewards patience with the contoured boards more than it rewards speed.

What we liked

  • Distinctive contoured board shapes instead of a flat grid
  • Consistent tea-shop setting gives the map a sense of place

What holds it back

  • Jam-jar obstacle placement is easy to misjudge
  • Entry difficulty is a step above the rest of this hub
  • No text-size option in settings
